Sport-based youth development specialisation at Adelphi University

A new graduate-level specialisation in sport-based youth development at Adelphi University in Long Island, New York, open to students pursuing master's degrees in physical education or sport management.
Utilising innovative teaching, coaching and administrative approaches, the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education at Adelphi University now offers a sport-based youth development specialisation through its M.A. in Physical Education and M.S. in Sport Management degrees. Through experiential education courses, students design, implement and evaluate sport-based youth development programmes, and gain experience in fundraising and grant writing with community partners.

Coordinated by Meredith Whitley, Ph.D., the 12-credit specialisation can be completed in one year and includes a service-learning course, two hybrid courses and one field-based internship. This specialisation prepares students for leadership positions in nonprofit organisations, school systems, sport camps and athletic leagues in the U.S. and around the world. It is designed especially for:
  • Administrators
  • Coaches
  • Recreation leaders
  • Teachers
  • Youth development workers
  • Community leaders
