A new graduate-level
specialisation in sport-based youth development at Adelphi University in
Long Island, New York, open to students pursuing master's degrees in
physical education or sport management.
Utilising innovative teaching, coaching and
administrative approaches, the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education at
Adelphi University now offers a sport-based youth development
specialisation through its M.A. in Physical Education and M.S. in Sport
Management degrees. Through experiential education courses, students
design, implement and evaluate sport-based youth development programmes,
and gain experience in fundraising and grant writing with community
partners.
Coordinated by Meredith Whitley, Ph.D., the 12-credit specialisation can be completed in one year and includes a service-learning course, two hybrid courses and one field-based internship. This specialisation prepares students for leadership positions in nonprofit organisations, school systems, sport camps and athletic leagues in the U.S. and around the world.
