Job Opportunity- Events manager for Mini Commonwealth Games in Kenya



Bringing together young people from East Africa, the Kenya Community Sports Foundation and the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission Alumni are planning to host a Mini Commonwealth Games tournament. Deadline: 20 March 2014.

Position: Events manager
Contract : 5 months (April-August 2014)
Application deadline: 20 March 2014
Location: Eldoret, Kenya
Salary: 50,000 per month (Kenyan shillings)

Background information 
The Kenya Community Sports Foundation (KESOFO) is a sporting organisation that uses the medium of sport to effect social change with a focus on behavioural change among the young people in Kenya.

The tournament is not just a sporting competition, but it is a chance for teams from different cultural backgrounds to unite and compete, under the umbrella of the Commonwealth. As part of the tournament, there will be a discussion attended by Commonwealth alumni, students and civil servants to discuss the links in sport and development and also the importance of the Commonwealth Games as a tool to bring many nations to work together for a combined, stronger voice that has greater effect and impact.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will also have the responsibility of managing the delivery of the tournaments’ key responsibilities. These include:
  • Safeguarding
  • Security at the event
  • Logistics and freight
  • Accommodation, travel, transport and VIP logistics.

Candidate specifications

Technical competencies
  • Good knowledge of programme management, techniques and tools
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other project management tools
  • Knowledge in the various formats of sporting events
  • Confident in managing people
  • Website design and maintenance
  • Negotiating, tact and diplomacy skills
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • Intermediate/advanced IT skills

Education and experience
  • Experience in managing major events within the sporting environment
  • Excellent written and oral ability in English
  • Cultural sensitivity
