The Swiss Academy for Development (SAD) is looking for an executive director, to be based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. Application deadline: 18 January 2015

The Swiss Academy for Development (SAD) is a charitable foundation, independent of political or religious affiliation, based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. Since 1991, it has promoted development opportunities for young people in societies that are undergoing rapid and often conflictual processes of change. In its own operational pilot projects, SAD develops new approaches and methods, and implements them in partnership with local organisations on the ground. At the interface between science and practice, SAD generates research and practice oriented knowledge through studies and monitoring and evaluation, and passes it on to other relevant organisations (www.sad.ch).

Tasks and responsibilities

• Management of the office
• Leadership of the management team and one project team
• Preparation of operational plan and annual budget
• Acquisition of project funds / fundraising
• Accountability to the Foundation Board
• Taking care of relations with existing networks and establishing new relationships with funding partners as well as with the political and scientific environment

Requirements and qualifications

• Degree in a social science
• Several years’ experience working in international development cooperation
• Demonstrable success in project acquisition and fundraising
• Committed and engaged leadership approach (team, project leadership, organisational development)
• Knowledge of relevant methods and approaches (e.g. M&E, impact assessments)
• Excellent knowledge of English, German and French
• Takes initiative, with an independent and thorough approach to work
